Ken was born in Johannesburg south and
matriculated at Hoёrskool President. He
is married to Zelda and they have two
lovely children currently studying to
start their own careers. They also get
involved in marketing their dad’s work
in their spare time, making exhibitions
a family effort. Kenneth is first and
foremost a family man and believes in a
happy, stable family unit. You could say
his motto is “work hard, play hard”,
since he’s not scared to take on any
challenge his work requires, pushing the
hours to finish projects at hand! Then,
when it comes to relaxation, he just
loves to have rip-roaring adventurous
holidays as well as absolute lazy ones
with his family and friends!
Maloney is a self-taught artist and
draws his inspiration from ancient
architecture of the various countries
Zelda and himself have visited over the
years.
Kenneth has an incredible capacity to
create three dimension and depth
accurately! He uses a light-weight
aggregate called a geo-polymer, that he
developed himself, to sculpture the art
piece from. He then paints each piece
individually by hand with acrylic paints
to further its depth and character. When
the lights are installed, atmosphere is
added and as you step back to look at
the finished product, it becomes so
real, it sweeps you away to some place
special or familiar that warms your
heart! These three-dimensional
masterpieces have won many accolades
over the years and have successfully
entered the international market a few
years ago.
Ken works closely with his wife Zelda,
who markets his art through exhibitions,
shows and selected Galleries locally and
abroad. She also ensures for lots of
encouragement and support...she’s his
biggest fan! Together they are a dynamic
couple and an inspiration to many.
Being the diverse artist that he is,
Ken’s other passion is to create
decorative garden pots. He is constantly
developing and experimenting with
existing and new types of pot designs
and recipies. He loves to work with
various paint
combinations-and-techniques, which he
also develops himself, to complete the
pots. He has been in this line of
business on-and-off for several years
and plays an integral role in this
particular industry. There seems to be no end to the capacity
of this down-to-earth man as his talents
don’t end here. He is also a fervent
business man, keeping his finger on the
economic pulse. Maloney has an
entrepreneurial mind and would create an
opportunity when others would still
ponder it, then he would diversify or
convert it so that others could also
benefit from it.
His property development skills have led
him to be consultant to many – where he
has taken the developer’s ideas and
catapulted it into the vision he saw for
it to be. One such success story is
Accolades, the Guest House, Conference
and Wedding Venue of close friends,
situated in Midrand, Johannesburg. He
only takes on two to three projects a
year. (You may contact the office for
more details).
It is clear that when it comes to
Kenneth Maloney, the world has an
abundance of opportunities waiting to be
discovered! |
